Introduction to the course and requirements of the module. Introduction to the various software tools. Explain the use of the DEPOT server. Introduce other resources such as the communication and media library databases and the Arts Picturehouse in Cambridge. Arrange for out of hours visit to the cinema with students to view relevant works at the picturehouse throughout the year.

Task 1: Create an alternative soundtrack for the intro to Bergman’Äôs Persona. You will be supplied with the QT Movie. Discuss your process on your blog.

During the workshop the tutor will score a scene considering various possibilities to teach by demonstrating good practice. In the viewing, the subject of sound designed will be examined and details of the sound design task which will be discussed in week 11 are given this week. ATTENTION: if you miss this viewing it will seriously impair your ability to respond to the task brief !

The tutor will explain the basic concepts of jitter as well as digital video technicalities. Matrixes and colour will be explored, an overview of the first 7 tutorials will be presented.
Start the Jitter tutorials aim to cover ¬Ý1-7 by week 4. The tutorials are kept on all the Macs in 040 and 041 in the documentation folder. At this stage in your degree you are expected to show autonomy by being able to learn things on your own !

Question and Answer session in which you demonstrate you have gone through the tutorials on jitter. Through practical examples we will set in groups to experiment on how audio can be made to alter the shape and colour of images.
